In addition to full-time foster care placement and opportunity for adoption, Centerstone also offers a respite care option for children and families in our foster care program. Respite care is a short-term placement for children who may be new to the foster system, who need a quick placement due to an emergent situation, or who need a break from their current foster family.
For the foster family, respite care can provide some time away from their day-to-day responsibilities to prevent burnout, offer care for their foster children when the family has an emergency or needs to travel, and can benefit the relationship for the foster child and the foster family.
If you’re considering becoming a foster care family, respite care may be a good way to determine if foster care is the right fit for you. Even if you’re only caring for a child for a short time, you can still make a difference in their life by offering new experiences such as days out, baking, games, or interaction with other children.
